UI design is common sense. It’s about respect. It’s the right word, the right color, the right shape, the right control at the right time. It’s about respecting the person who is going to use the UI. Jason Fried

I find myself thinking of a checklist Wozniak wrote a few years ago describing how to become a genius. His advice was straightforward yet strangely terrible: You must clarify your goals, gain knowledge through spaced repetition, preserve health, work steadily, minimize stress, refuse interruption, and never resist sleep when tired. Want to Remember Everything You’ll Ever Learn? Surrender to This...

Interestingly enough, a lot of people get stuck in some sort of weird trap: Their idea is worth so much to them that they won’t give up equity yet their idea is worth so little that they won’t invest in it. ssharp

No model is better than a faulty model Trying to model something that escapes modelization is the heart of the problem. We like models because they do not require experience and can be taught by a 33-year-old assistant professor. Sometimes you need to say, “No model is better than a faulty model” - like no medicine is better than the advice of an unqualified doctor, and no drug is...

I estimate that the ratio of useless to relevant reading material is about 20 to 1. With that in mind, my advice is to reduce the literary inflow to a maximum of two newspapers a day, two weekly magazines, and two publications in a specialized field. Start being proud of not being aware of everything. The reward will be an opportunity to THINK. svn

When you’re young, you look at television and think, ‘There’s a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down.’ But when you get a little older, you realize that’s not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That’s a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in...

Complaining is silly. Either act or forget. Thinking life will be better in the future is stupid. I have to live now. Being not truthful works against me. Helping other people helps me. Organizing a charity group is surprisingly easy. Everything I do always comes back to me. Drugs feel great in the beginning and become a drag later on. Over time I get used to everything and start taking it...
