It is not good management to take profits out of the workers or the buyers; make management produce profits. Don’t cheapen the product; don’t cheapen the wage; don’t overcharge the public. Put brains into the method, and more brains, and still more brains - do things better than ever before; and by this means all parties to business are served and benefited.

Business on a money-making basis is most insecure. It is a touch-and-go affair, moving irregularly and rarely over a term of years amounting to much.  It is the function of business to produce for consumption and not for money or speculation.  Producing for consumption implies that the quality of the article produced will be high and that the price will be low—that the article be one which serves the people and not merely the producer.

The promise our society makes to young people that they can define who they are by choosing their work is vapid babble for most. How many of us become who they are through their work? Precious few. Most just sell their time to their employer and start living come 5 PM. But these craftsmen who never really chose their trade, seem to be really free men to me, unencumbered from those false promises, they could become who they are through their work.
